2011 Global Channel Asian Sports Festival

Recap from www.fabametrodc.org/

June 27, 2011

The 5th Philippines Independence Day/Asian American Invitational Basketball Tournament concluded last night with a lot of amazing games, non-stop action, unexpected twist and turns, players/coaches/fans experienced the ecstasy of winning and the agony of defeat but one thing we are sure about it was one heck of a weekend of Basketball to remember this year. We are very thankful to our Lord for guiding and giving us the strength, the will, determination and patience to pull this one kind of event. We all must be thankful to Him that we were able to gather in one roof to get to know one another, meet new friends and get re-acquainted with our old friends that we haven’t seen for years. We are also thankful to him that no one suffered any major injury that will require surgery. Thank you Lord!

We take this time to thank all our sponsors mainly, THE GLOBAL CHANNEL, Deausen Group, SamSung Autocare, The Philippines Cultural Center, Baltimore Life Companies, Northstar Restaurant, The Funnel Cake, The Smoothies, Atty Roland V. Lee, Atty. Miriam Riedmiller, Tito Al’s Choice Products, Friendly Barber Shop, Philippines Nurses Association of Metropolitan DC, Mr. and Mrs. Aldrin Jose, Mario Batacan Dental Laboratory and to all performers from Rudy Villanueva (provider of the sound system), Felix “the wonder kid” Mejica, Ivy Rose, Black Bird Pond Band, Nerissa Lumban, the Hawaiian Dancer, the Dragon Dance Group and the rest of the entertainers.

Special thanks to Mr. Jesse Gatchalian, Ms. Grace Valera Jaramillo and Carl Abella of Migrant Heritage Commission for taking their time to stop by and presented all the awards during the Closing Ceremony. To Kuya Ernie, Kuya Art, Kuya Walter, Ate Nita, Ate Dimpna, Jessie del Rosario, Wesley Crisostomo, Cuevas Family, Romel Simon and Sarah Nacman Gonzales for your unwavering support and help for making this event successful.

Let’s not forget The Global Channel personnel, the officers/board of directors of FABA, players and supporters who cover all the bulk of the scoring and timer of all 132 games, for all the people who lend their hand to give FABA’s group a break in scoring and timer (too many to mention all the names but we know who you are) and most importantly the players, coaches, fans, parents, friends to all the ones who supported this once a year event. We thank you all from the bottom of our hearts and without each other’s support this event won’t be possible.

We are all winners and there’s no loser in this kind of event. Not everyone will win the championships but the way we conducted ourselves on the court and the behavior we exhibited throughout the two days made us all winners.

From our humble beginning ten years ago (2001-2010) this is one of the event that we have in store for all of us to enjoy and have fun as we continue to celebrate our 10th Year of Anniversary.
